"Which flavour should I get?" is the question that stops people in front of an e-liquid shelf, and it has no universal answer. It has one for you: the flavour you'll stick with isn't the best-rated bottle in the shop, it's the one that matches what you want from vaping right now — replacing a cigarette, treating yourself, chasing something cold, or simply trying. So this guide is organised by reader profile, not by aroma family.

If you're after the dessert / fruity / fresh / tobacco split instead, our guide to e-liquid flavours is built for that. Here we start from you, and finish with the method for finding your all-day. Everything below is in the e-liquid range.

1. You're quitting smoking: start with a tobacco

Your starting point: a blond tobacco classic, in 50/50, in a small bottle. Not a dessert, not a mint that strips paint.

In the first few weeks the habit that works is the simplest one: don't send your palate somewhere unfamiliar. A blond tobacco stays close to what you know and leaves your attention for everything else — the gesture, the draw, the nicotine strength. 50/50 is the base behind mouth-to-lung (MTL) e-liquids, the draw that feels closest to a cigarette.

Blond Unicorn 10ml is the most neutral: a light blond classic with soft, balanced notes, made to carry a whole day. Tobacco Mix Maousse Lab 50ml has more body: a blond tobacco lifted by light brown notes, remarkably true to life. Rodeo Montreal Original 50ml, made in Canada, is a realistic blond classic with a touch more edge for character.

The bridge to something sweeter: plenty of vapers find that after a few weeks tobacco stops doing much for them. The classic stepping stone is RY4 Unicorn 10ml: a soft, lightly sweetened classic with vanilla and caramel notes. If it speaks to you more than the Blond, your next bottle will be a dessert.

2. You have a sweet tooth: head for the desserts

Your starting point: a creamy or pastry-led dessert, in 50ml or 100ml — the family you tire of slowest.

Desserts turn vaping into a pleasure rather than a substitute. Vanilla, caramel, coffee, pastry, chocolate: these are the most filling flavours in the mouth, the ones that hold up best across a day. One trade-off: heavily sweetened recipes gunk up coils faster.

Vanilla Coffee & Pecan Biggy Bear x Unicorn 200ml is our benchmark: vanilla, coffee and pecan, a seriously indulgent blend in 60/40, in a format cut out for all-day use. La Chose Le French Liquide 50ml plays denser: salted butter caramel, toasted hazelnut, coffee, vanilla and pecan — in 50/50 as well as 80/20.

Lemon Tart Dinner Lady 100ml is the classic of the genre: silky lemon cream, light meringue, strikingly realistic shortcrust. Dubai Chocolate Bar Edition 10 Ans 50ml blends premium chocolate with a genuine crunch and a generous pistachio cream, in 70/30. Koeksisters Unicorn Signature 100ml recreates a South African pastry: fried plaited dough, golden and crisp, soaked in sweet syrup, with cinnamon notes.

3. You want fruit: clean, light, never heavy

Your starting point: a red fruit or an exotic blend, with or without ice depending on how much cold you can take.

Fruity is the easiest family to like and the lightest in the mouth: where a dessert saturates after a few hours, a fruity blend vapes all day. The only question to settle is how much freshness you want, because plenty of modern recipes carry a dose of ice that changes everything.

Blue Raspberry Unicorn Signature 100ml, developed with Maousse Lab, pairs blue raspberry with woodland berries and a solid dose of ice, in 50/50. Kanzi Twelve Monkeys 100ml, made in Canada, blends strawberry, watermelon and kiwi: a sweet-shop fruit with no added ice, in 70/30. The Red Oil Fruity Fuel 100ml takes an energy-drink line on strawberry and pomegranate, sweetened just enough — in 70/30, cut out for direct-lung vaping.

Our fruity e-liquid guide works through the family; the fruity range gathers them together.

4. You're after freshness: mints and ice

Your starting point: decide first between pure mint and iced fruit. They are two very different sensations.

Pure mint resets the palate, ideal after a meal or a coffee; iced fruit keeps the fruit up front, the cold only underlining it.

On the mint side, Menthe Glaciale Unicorn 10ml is a crystal-clear mint of dazzling freshness, in 50/50 and a small bottle: the least committing way to find out whether fresh is your thing. A level up, Le P'tit Glaçon 50ml is a polar mint so glacial the maker warns you it bites.

On the iced fruit side, Red Ice Edition 10 Ans 50ml folds strawberry, raspberry and blackcurrant into an icy mint with a light aniseed touch; if it becomes your all-day, the same recipe comes as 500! Red Ice 500ml. Fruits Rouges Givrés Biggy Bear 200ml goes for a burst of sweet and tart flavours, like red berries straight out of the freezer: in 60/40, the all-day format of the category.

5. You want fun: drinks and candy

Your starting point: a flavour that isn't imitating a cigarette or a dessert, just entertaining you.

Soda, lemonade, bubblegum: these recipes work above all as a second bottle, the one you keep to break the routine when your all-day starts fading into the background.

Colamoon Cosmic Candy Secret Lab 50ml takes on a famous fizzy drink and its unmistakable cola taste: fresh, sparkling, sweet and aromatic, in 50/50. 500! Frosty Lemonade 500ml is a lemon and lime lemonade served with a serious helping of ice, in 70/30. Cerise Bubble Gum Jus. 100ml, born of a collaboration with Belgi'ohm, is a cherry bubblegum lifted by a touch of coolness.

6. You don't know yet: the method

Your starting point: three small bottles rather than one big one. That's the whole idea.

Test three families in 10ml, not one in 100ml

The biggest beginner mistake is buying 100ml of a flavour you've never tried. Take three 10ml bottles from three opposing families and you'll have your answer inside ten days. The Unicorn 10ml range is built for it: Blond for tobacco, RY4 for soft dessert, Menthe Glaciale for fresh — three radically different sensations, all in 50/50.

Give each bottle several days

An e-liquid can't be judged on the first puff: the aromas settle and your palate adjusts. Vape each bottle for two or three days in a row, then watch for one signal only: which one did you want to go back to? That's your all-day.

Separate the all-day from the treat

Most settled vapers rotate two bottles. The all-day is understated and never cloying — a tobacco, a light fruit, a fresh. The treat is more assertive and gets saved for the evening, which stops you going off a bold flavour within a week.

Rotate to avoid flavour fatigue

After several days on the same aroma you can end up tasting almost nothing: vapers call it flavour fatigue, or vaper's tongue, and it's simply the palate getting used to a repeated stimulus. Rotate two or three distant flavours, drink water, spend a day on a mint: the taste comes back on its own.

PG/VG ratio and hardware change what you taste

More propylene glycol (PG) means a sharper flavour and a more pronounced throat hit, which is what you want in mouth-to-lung vaping, on a pod. More vegetable glycerine (VG) means a softer, more vaporous experience suited to sub-ohm direct-lung setups. Most liquids listed here run from 50/50 to 70/30; on a small pod, stay on 50/50.

Nicotine strength changes how you perceive flavour

Your nicotine strength affects the throat hit and how you read the aroma: too high and it masks the nuances, too low and you'll compensate by vaping more. Our nicotine strength guide gives you the benchmarks, the complete e-cigarette liquid guide covers base, aromas and dosing, and the DIY calculator is there for anyone mixing their own.

The Unicorn tip: never judge an e-liquid on a coil that's past its best. Saturated cotton flattens aromas and produces a dull taste that has nothing to do with the bottle. Fit a fresh coil, let the cotton soak for five minutes after filling, and try again.

In short: your flavour by profile

  • Coming off cigarettes: a blond classic in 50/50 — Blond Unicorn, Tobacco Mix or Rodeo — then RY4 once tobacco starts to pall.
  • Sweet tooth: Vanilla Coffee & Pecan or La Chose for creaminess, Lemon Tart for pastry, Dubai Chocolate Bar and Koeksisters for something different.
  • After fruit: Blue Raspberry if you'll take the ice, Kanzi if you won't, The Red Oil for an airier vape.
  • Chasing cold: Menthe Glaciale or Le P'tit Glaçon for pure mint, Red Ice and Fruits Rouges Givrés for iced fruit.
  • Here for fun: Colamoon, Frosty Lemonade or Cerise Bubble Gum, ideal as a second bottle.
  • Still undecided: three 10ml bottles from three families, a few days each, and you'll know.

Frequently asked questions

Which flavour should you choose to quit smoking?
A blond classic tobacco, in a 50/50 base, in a small bottle while you confirm your choice. It stays close to what you know and lets you focus on hardware and nicotine strength rather than on the aroma. Plenty of vapers find that after a few weeks the pull of tobacco fades: RY4, soft and lightly vanilla-led, then works as a bridge.
Which e-liquid flavour sells the most?
The dessert and fruity families dominate by a wide margin, well ahead of tobacco. That makes sense: tobacco is a transition flavour, chosen at the start and often dropped later, while sweet and fruity are pleasure flavours people stay on for years. Fresh follows just behind.
Can you mix two e-liquids?
Yes, as long as you mix ready-to-vape liquids and stay consistent on nicotine: a 6 mg and a 0 mg in equal parts give you 3 mg. On aromas, stick to compatible families and mix small quantities to test.
Why can't I taste my e-liquid any more?
Two causes, in this order. The most common: a coil at the end of its life, with saturated cotton that flattens the aromas — replace it before anything else. The second: flavour fatigue, the palate getting used to an aroma vaped continuously — rotating two or three distant flavours is usually enough.
Should you vape the same flavour all day?
No, and it's actively unhelpful if you vape a lot. Keep an understated all-day — a tobacco, a light fruit or a fresh — and a second, more assertive bottle for the evening: you limit flavour fatigue and get more out of the bold flavours.
Does the flavour change depending on the device?
Noticeably. A pod running 50/50 gives a sharp aroma with a defined throat hit in mouth-to-lung. The same liquid in 70/30 on sub-ohm kit in direct-lung comes out softer and more vaporous. An e-liquid that disappointed you can win you over elsewhere: always check the PG/VG ratio first.
